50 years of being looked after by Firth & Scott

We were delighted to receive the following testimonial from one of our longest standing clients, David and Wendy Drinkwater (nee Slater)

I think it was during 1965 that we first saw in the journal of the Institution of Production Engineers the Firth & Scott advertisement offering Insurance/Assurance services.  After subsequent visits to 106 Front Street, Arnold and my posting to work near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, my first Firth & Scott transaction, via Derek Allwright, was mid-1966 for a £1,000 U.K.P.I., 25 years With Profits Endowment Policy.  There followed several Halifax Building Society Agency savings accounts with Wendy and I.  Also involved were Messrs. Reed and Goff of Firth & Scott.

Having returned to Nottingham end of 1966, married Wendy in September 1969 and moved to a new job in Cheshire, March 1970, we used this U.K.P.I. and further policies against securing a mortgage to buy our first home.

From 1970 onwards there were car, home building/contents and travel insurances taken out and renewed annually via Firth & Scott throughout the years.  We always prefer the face to face personal service that we have become accustomed to.  We have built a great rapport with all the staff in the office and are on first name terms with everyone.  They even have a supply of my own brand of tea bags in the office for when we visit!

During 1976 we sold our Cheshire home, moved back to the Nottingham area and again used a series of existing and new With Profits Endowment Policies to set against a Halifax Building Society mortgage to buy our present Radcliffe-on-Trent home.  All Endowment Policies matured during the early 1990’s and more than paid off the mortgage.

Involvement with Firth & Scott has continued, including during our overseas postings to Egypt 1978 to 1984 and 1986 to 1989.  In the late 1990’s Firth & Scott also took on Insurance matters for Wendy’s parents.

Since then, thanks at least in part to the successful efforts of the Firth & Scott Investment Team, I have been able to realise my long term ambition to retire from full-time work at the age of 55 – in 2000.

So, to conclude – Wendy and I would like to thank all Firth & Scott staff over the past 50 years for their diligence, forbearance and excellent services – where would we be without them?

Long may our connections continue, eventually passing over to our daughter, Adele Pattie.
