Commercial Drone Insurance
All commercial drone operators require a Permission for Commercial Operation (PfCO) and need to register with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), but there is also insurance to consider.
As a minimum, you will require public liability insurance to protect against legal liability for third party property damage or injury whilst using a drone. However, Commercial drone insurance in the UK is only legal if it is compliant with (EC) 785/2004; including third-party liabilities and cover for acts of war, terrorism, hijacking, acts of sabotage, unlawful seizure of aircraft and civil commotion.
Key Points
- Public Liability
- Material Damage/theft/loss of your drone(s) and ancillary equipment
- Cyber Security; i.e. unauthorised persons hacking/taking control of the drone/equipment
- Invasion of privacy (trespass/nuisance)
- Personal injury
- Malicious acts/terrorism
- Insurance must be fully compliant with EC 785/2004
When using drones for your business it is essential that the insurance you arrange is correct and provides you with sufficient protection.
